The “Trophée Roses des Andes” is a competition for women only, following on in the time-honoured tradition of African long-distance car rallies. Driving a 4X4, the aim is to cover the day’s stage using a road book, a map and a compass, calling in at the various checkpoints on the way.

Rankings are based solely on navigation. Speed does not come into it at all in this competition. The rally includes several tests of navigation and of crossing sand dunes, not forgetting the traditional marathon stage (two days of total self-reliance). It is managed by a team of professionals with a mobile organiser PC and response facilities including backup vehicles and a helicopter to handle the logistics and safety. At the end of each day, they bivouac.

All that is needed to take part in this competition is a 4×4 team with a driver and a co-driver complete with driving licences. Both newcomers and old hands can take the wheel in the testing adventure that the “Trophée Roses des Andes” provides. An adventure that is first and foremost accessible, with its main aim being to provide all women with access to an international competition with a strong human dimension.

Why did you decide to take part in the “Trophée Roses des Andes” in Argentina?

Pascale DUBOS and Rosemarie Poilverd went into this competition partly to give themselves a challenge and to discover Argentina and Chile in a different way, to enjoy an extraordinary experience full of challenges with other women, and also to help extend the work of the Equinoterapia del Azul charitable association.

“Being of a sporty, dynamic, motivated and cheerful disposition ourselves, we immediately felt at home with the challenges that the “Trophée Roses des Andes” offered. Throughout this adventure, our main aim was to perform as well as we could and do everything possible to make our very modest contribution to these children, to help them blossom and live with their disability better thanks to the Equinoterapia Del Azul* charitable association”.

Our logo represents a rose marking the wind’s quarters, because this rally is based on navigation and not on speed.

“We have spent a year preparing to take part in the third “Trophée Roses des Andes“, and when looking for partners in this sporting and humanitarian rally, we immediately thought of MATWATCHES. My husband, a soldier, had worked with MATWATCHES on designing certain watches, and said he was hugely impressed with the quality of the product and with how suitable it was for hostile environments. For us, MATWATCHES is the ideal partner for action women!! This partnership gave rise to a limited edition of 10 watches with the logo of our team 79 “Les Roses’As“. Their ruggedness, their easy-to-read dials, the fact that they have been tested as waterproof to 200 m, their resilience in extreme conditions, and their push-buttons being on the other side to make all-terrain driving easier are all essential qualities for this long distance 4×4 rally”.

“We chose to wear these timepieces with orange rubber straps during the sporting and fun parts of our adventure, sometimes with sand-coloured canvas straps reminiscent of the Atacama desert, and with straps in black Barenia leather for the award presentation evening”.
